Exploring the World

The EU-funded EMPHATICaL project, backed by a €17 million grant, officially kicked off with a consortium meeting hosted by TNO in Petten, Netherlands. The project aims to revolutionise the metallurgical industry by integrating electrified processes and carbon capture technologies to produce e-methanol, supporting the EU’s 2050 climate goals.

The kick-off meeting gathered 17 consortium partners, including top research institutions, technology providers, and industry leaders. The event covered the project’s scope, expectations, and strategic alignment, along with key presentations from Work Package leaders and partner organisations.

The kick-off concluded with a visit to the TNO labs in Petten, marking the beginning of the project’s journey. With its innovative approach, EMPHATICaL sets the foundation for a more sustainable, circular economy by converting industrial CO₂ emissions into valuable e-methanol, demonstrating that the path to net-zero emissions is both feasible and economically viable.
