The EMPHATICaL consortium recently gathered for a productive two-day General Assembly and Review Meeting. Hosted by our partner CELSA, the event brought together our 17 project partners to discuss our collective progress toward a decarbonised metallurgical industry.
As each work package advances, our vision of sustainable manufacturing is rapidly becoming a reality.
The EMPHATICaL Mission: Industrial Decarbonisation
The EMPHATICaL project is firmly on track to hit its core sustainability goals:
- CO₂ Conversion: Transforming captured carbon emissions into valuable e-methanol and storable CO₂.
- Industrial Electrification: Replacing fossil fuel dependence with clean energy processes.
- Cross-Industry Collaboration: Boosting sector-coupling to reduce energy use and global emissions.
18-Month Project Review & Technical Milestones
Marking our first 18 months of innovation, the second day featured an in-depth EU project review with our Project Officer and Technical Reviewer. The consortium presented comprehensive data on our latest technical milestones, economic assessments, and advanced process modelling.
Future Outlook: Delivering Green Technologies for Industry
By the end of the project lifecycle, EMPHATICaL aims to deliver tangible sustainable technological solutions:
- FOAK Demonstrator: A First-Of-A-Kind, TRL 7 system designed to capture and transform industrial CO₂ emissions.
- 25% Energy Savings: Integration of innovative CL-HPAD technology to drastically reduce purification energy costs.
- 41M Tons CO₂ Reduced: A scalable pathway to eliminate 41 million tons of CO₂ annually by 2050.
